Amanda N Godwin is a dynamic and multifaceted legal professional with an impressive career in legal compliance, business development, and strategic management. She is a Legal Compliance and Business Development Strategist, an Alumni of the Technology Innovation Agency, which is a national public entity in Southern African that serves as the key institutional intervention to bridge the innovation chasm between research and development from higher education institutions, science councils, public entities, and private sector, and commercialisation. She is also the President and Dean of a Military based Academy that is responsible for research and developmental advancement of programmes that aim to challenge Southern Africa’s Education systems by lobbying for the introduction of a more militant approach to how we cultivate the minds of the youth that will be Africas first line of Economic defence against various mandates from the west.
With an NDL Law Diploma from the University of Johannesburg and a Project Management Certificate from WITS Business school and her current pursuit of a double major in BA Politics, Economics and Philosophy at UNISA and a Business Development and Leadership Qualification through Harvard University, Her blend of legal expertise, business acumen, and visionary leadership positions her as a leading figure in her field.
She has the honour and privilege of serving/sitting on a number of boards at both an Executive and Non-Executive level where she advices companies of various sizes across various Jurisdictions within the SADC region, the North of America, South East Asia and Europe on matters pertaining but not limited to Corporate Governance, Institutionalised Policy, Business Development and Strategy. One of these companies being Ruvit Investments, which is one of SADC’s leading logistics Solutions company based in Zambia and South Africa, where she holds a significant portion of shares and sits on the Executive Board Directors.
Her broad experience and leadership is what paved the way for her to launch of Conglomerate Consulting (https://www.conglomerateconsulting.co.za ), in 2018, aiming to provide legal compliance and business development services.
Conglomerate Consulting, under Amanda's strategic leadership, has since achieved remarkable success and has seen her registering and developing over 500+ legal entities, embarking and rendering project management assistance on significant projects like the City of Johannesburg Climate Action Plan Launch. In this particular venture, Amanda played a crucial role in facilitating relations with the South African National Energy Development Institute (https://
sanedi.org.za/index.htm ) (SANEDI), the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office (https:// mayor.lacity.gov ), The Accra Ghana Mayor’s Office and the City of Durban Mayor’s Office to just name a few. Her ability to establish relationships with key players gave her access to their national database of energy supply companies, allowing her to provide specialized business consultancy work in the energy sector.
Conglomerate Consulting has also secured R50,000 for a Micro Enterprise from the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) through a program ran by the Swedish Embassy in 2020 - (Swiss South Africa Venture Leader Programme), for the development of a local delivery app, and has conducted occupancy audits for over 898 properties for Valumax (https://www.valumax.co.za/index.php/ corporate-home-page) a property company with a portfolio spanning through Africa and across the globe where she also had the responsibility of Chief Social facilitator for HSD and the private stakeholders involved in the transaction worth over R 450 000 000.00.
Conglomerate Consulting has gone on to launch Project 5000; which is an AGI JOE ACADEMY project aimed at incubating and launching 5000 thriving corporate entities such as non-profits (NPC’s, NGO’s, NPO’s – Charities, churches), Private Companies (Pty Ltd’s), Academies, Schools, Careers, Trust Funds, Unions, etc.AGI JOE ACADEMY. Conglomerate Consulting is now set to launch eStudios; a uniquely African project; eStudio, that began as a research project with the Barloworld Empowerment Foundation uncovering the aspirations of rural and peri-urban youth has evolved into a movement shaping the continent's content landscape. Driven by a desire to amplify authentic African voices, eStudios offers three core solutions:
-Original Stock Content: as a platform that empowers local creators to showcase their culture, heritage, and landscapes through stock music, video, and photography.
-Business Support: Partnering with WIL Academy, provides resources for creative enterprises to thrive in the digital age.
-Impactful Projects: From a Climate Change Magazine to an e_Store connecting local artisans with larger markets, fostering sustainability and economic growth.
These projects and more are what earned Amanda an invitation to the PAN AFRICAN LAWYERS UNION (https://www.lawyersofafrica.org/about- palu/ ) (PALU) Conference in Zambia where she had the pleasure of presenting her thoughts on Business Development on the focus groups held during the conference.
Amanda has also been invited as a delegate by SADC – LA’s (https:// sadcla.org ) Secretariat, to the SADC Lawyers Association Annual General
Meeting And Conference to be held at the Talatona International Hotel, Luanda, Angola, in September 2023 to present the innovation platform that is SADC Connect and her academy’s, AGI JOE’s PROJECT 5000.
As a result of this Conglomerate Consulting has been appointed as a service provider for Zambia’s Law Association President to spearhead his Election Manisfesto campaign.
Which will play a key role in the focus groups and Partners that Amanda is putting together to develop a blueprint for the development of a Hedge Fund earmarked for 2024-2030.
Amanda's vision extends to the empowerment of small-scale entrepreneurs through micro- franchising, a business model that adapts traditional franchising principles to suit small-scale and low-income entrepreneurs. It involves the replication of a proven business concept on a smaller scale, providing aspiring entrepreneurs with a complete package of resources and support to start and operate their own micro-enterprise.
Amanda’s experience spans through various sectors, starting from the Local Magistrates Courts where she specialized in case flow management, reviewing, summarizing and assisting in the decision of case dockets to be placed on the court roll, along with reviewing inquest murder dockets for the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Office (https://www.npa.gov.za/office-ndpp ), - to her work as a Programme Management Intern working at the head office of the Department of Human Settlements (https://www.dhs.gov.za ) handling admin, legal compliance, and reporting on Budgets and Project Management progress items on land acquisition matters to the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA https://www.dbsa.org ) and reviewing feasibility, geo and environmental studies for the purchasing of land for Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses.
During her tenure at the Department of Human Settlements (HSD) she assisted in masterfully resolving a complex challenge involving millions in a rates and taxes debt owed to the Department by Macsteel Services Centres SA (https:// macsteel.co.za/about-us ). Her proposal to have Macsteel donate the land to the Municipality to avoid tax implications by both parties was approved, legally solving a liability of over R450,000 000 which resulted in Macsteel head hunting her as a Management Trainee.
She was trained at Macsteel, extensively in the field of Legal Compliance and Corporate Governance, where she was given the responsibility to look after the company’s Legal Secretariat Department and handled transactions as large as R 1 billion, ranging from mergers, acquisitions, the drafting of shareholder agreements all the way to the distribution of shares, on boarding of company Directors, Executives and Shareholders such as Cyril Ramaphosa, Chris Liebenberg and Mike Benfield along with drafting and vetting land acquisition agreements and negotiations with Redefine Properties (https://
www.redefine.co.za ) for a railway line to be built on Macsteel and government owned land. Some of the functions and roles she held were previously looked after by the Group Chief Accountant, Chief Finance and Group Chief Legal and Human Capital respectively.
Her legal acumen continued to shine at Satch Govendor Attorneys (https:// satchgovenderattorneys.co.za/about/ )where she administered civil cases of debt resolution, debt prescription and mediation and arbitration matters. At Damani Attorneys, she facilitated property transfers, Deceased Estates and the registration of Trusts as well as the vetting and valuation of Assets and Liabilities in public commercial transactions.
As COO and later CEO for a group of companies with diversified interests in property, hospitality, agriculture and mining, Amanda managed to secure R1 million in capital funding for the group.
